Maya traced the condensation on her iced tea glass, the clinking sound a pleasant counterpoint to the soft jazz music drifting from the cafe's speakers. The scent of freshly brewed coffee mingled with the sweet aroma of pastries, creating a sense of calm. She’d just finished a delightful brunch with friends, conversations and laughter still echoing in her mind.

Her phone vibrated in her hand. A new email. She took a deep breath before opening it. The subject line was the one thing that could threaten her mood. She opened the email quickly, wanting it to be over.

Her hand trembled as she lowered the phone. The joy of the morning had vanished, replaced by a hollow ache in her gut. She felt a sudden urge to just run, to escape the crushing weight of disappointment.
